The modal verb can is used to express ability (what someone is able to do) and permission (what someone is allowed to do).

Affirmative Form

Subject + can + verb (base form)

• I can swim.

• She can speak English and Arabic.

• They can play football very well.

Negative Form

Subject + cannot (can’t) + verb (base form)

• I cannot (can’t) ride a bike.

• He can’t come to the party.
