Linking Words (Transition Words)

Linking words help connect ideas and make your writing more coherent. They show relationships between sentences and paragraphs.

Addition

• And: I like reading and writing.
• Moreover / Furthermore: He is intelligent. Moreover, he is hardworking.

• Also: She also enjoys painting.

Contrast / Opposition

• But: He is rich but unhappy.

Cause and Effect
