Present Simple vs Present Continuous

Lesson Objectives

• To distinguish between Present Simple and Present Continuous tenses.

1. Present Simple (المضارع البسيط)

Usage: We use the Present Simple to talk about:

• Habits and routines (عادة وأعمال يومية): e.g. I brush my teeth every morning.
• Facts and general truths (حقائق): e.g. Water boils at 100°C.
• Permanent situations (حالات دائمة): e.g. She lives in Algiers.

Form:

Subject	Verb	Example
I / You / We / They	base verb	I play football.
He / She / It	verb + s/es	He plays football.

Time expressions: always, usually, often, sometimes, never, every day/week, once a week.

2. Present Continuous (المضارع المستمر)

Usage: We use the Present Continuous to talk about:

• Actions happening now (أفعال تحدث الآن): e.g. She is reading a book right now.
• Temporary situations (حالات مؤقتة): e.g. I am staying with my uncle this week.
• Future arrangements (ترتيبات مستقبلية): e.g. We are visiting the museum tomorrow.

Form:
