1. Zero Conditional (الحالة الصفرية) – حقائق عامة

الاستخدام:

للحقائق العلمية والعامة والقوانين الطبيعية (نتيجة مؤكدة دائماً).

التركيب:

If + Present Simple, Present Simple

أمثلة:

• If you heat ice, it melts. (إذا سخنت الجليد، فإنه يذوب)
• If you water plants, they grow. (إذا سقيت النباتات، فإنها تنمو)
• If it rains, the ground gets wet. (إذا أمطرت، تبتل الأرض)

2. First Conditional (الحالة الأولى) – شرط محتمل في المستقبل

الاستخدام:

للتعبير عن حالة محتملة الحدوث في المستقبل (احتمال حقيقي).

التركيب:

If + Present Simple, will + infinitive

أمثلة:

• If you study hard, you will pass the exam. (إذا درست بجد، ستنجح في الامتحان)
• If it rains tomorrow, we will stay home. (إذا أمطرت غداً، سنبقى في المنزل)
• If she arrives early, she will call you. (إذا وصلت مبكراً، سوف تتصل بك)

ملاحظات:

• يمكن استخدام unless بدلاً من if not (ما لم): Unless you study, you will fail.
• يمكن استخدام may/might/can/could بدلاً من will: If you run, you can catch the bus.
• يمكن استخدام الأمر في جواب الشرط: If you go out, take your umbrella.

3. Second Conditional (الحالة الثانية) – شرط غير محتمل أو افتراضي

الاستخدام:

للتعبير عن حالة غير حقيقية أو غير محتملة في الحاضر أو المستقبل.

التركيب:

If + Past Simple, would + infinitive

أمثلة:

• If I had a million dollars, I would travel around the world. (لو كان لدي مليون دولار، لسافرت حول العالم)
• If I were you, I would study medicine. (لو كنت مكانك، لدرست الطب)
• If she lived in London, she would visit museums every week. (لو كانت تعيش في لندن، لزارت المتاحف كل أسبوع)

ملاحظات مهمة:

• في Second Conditional نستخدم were مع جميع الضمائر (بما في ذلك I و He/She/It) في الشرط: If I were you…
• يمكن استخدام might/could بدلاً من would: If I had money, I could buy a car.

4. Third Conditional (الحالة الثالثة) – شرط مستحيل (في الماضي)

الاستخدام:

للتعبير عن ندم أو موقف لم يحدث في الماضي (التعبير عن شيء كان يمكن أن يحدث لكنه لم يحدث).

التركيب:

If + Past Perfect, would have + past participle

أمثلة:

• If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam. (لو كنت درست أكثر، لكنت نجحت في الامتحان – لكنني لم أدرس كثيراً)
• If she had woken up early, she would not have missed the bus. (لو استيقظت مبكراً، لما فاتتها الحافلة)
• If we had left on time, we would have arrived before the storm. (لو غادرنا في الوقت المحدد، لكنا وصلنا قبل العاصفة)

Exercise 02: Rewrite the sentences using conditionals

1. I don’t have a car, so I can’t drive you to school. (Second conditional)
2. She didn’t study, so she failed the test. (Third conditional)
3. Maybe it will rain, we will cancel the trip. (First conditional)

Answers:

1. If I had a car, I would drive you to school.
2. If she had studied, she would not have failed the test.
3. If it rains, we will cancel the trip.
