Part 1: The Structure of a Paragraph
\n
A paragraph has three parts:
\n
| Part | Name | What It Does | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Topic Sentence (جملة افتتاحية) |
Introduces the main idea | “My best friend Ahmed is a kind and helpful person.” |
| 2 | Supporting Sentences (جمل داعمة) |
Give details, examples, reasons | “He always helps me with my homework. He is also very funny.” |
| 3 | Concluding Sentence (جملة ختامية) |
Summarises or ends the paragraph | “That is why Ahmed is my best friend.” |
\n\n
Part 2: Useful Linking Words (Connectors)
\n
Connectors make your paragraph flow smoothly. Here are the most important ones for guided writing:
\n
| Connector | Meaning | Use |
|---|---|---|
| and | و | Add information: “I like reading and writing.” |
| but | لكن | Show contrast: “I like football but my brother prefers tennis.” |
| because | لأن | Give a reason: “I study hard because I want to pass the BEM.” |
| so | لذلك | Show a result: “It was raining, so we stayed at home.” |
| also | أيضاً | Add another point: “She is intelligent. She is also very kind.” |
\n\n
Part 3: Model Paragraphs
\n\n
Example 1: Describing a Person (وصف شخص)
\n
Topic: Describe your mother.
\n
My mother is the most important person in my life. She is a kind and patient woman. She works as a teacher at a primary school. Every morning, she wakes up early to prepare breakfast for the family. She helps me with my homework every evening. She always listens to my problems and gives me good advice. I love my mother very much because she is always there for me.
\n
Analysis: Topic sentence (first), supporting sentences (details about her job, daily actions, qualities), concluding sentence (last). The connector “because” is used in the last sentence to give a reason.
\n
\n\n
Example 2: My Daily Routine (روتيني اليومي)
\n
I wake up at 6 o’clock every morning. First, I wash my face and brush my teeth. Then, I have breakfast with my family. I usually eat bread with cheese and drink a glass of milk. After breakfast, I go to school. I study many subjects but my favourite is English because it is interesting. I come back home at 4 PM and do my homework. In the evening, I watch TV or read a book. I go to bed at 9 PM.
\n
Analysis: Uses time words (First, Then, After breakfast, In the evening). Uses connectors (but, because, and). Present Simple tense for daily routines.
\n
\n\n
Example 3: A Past Event (حدث في الماضي)
\n
Last Friday, I went on a picnic with my family. We went to a beautiful forest near our town. My mother prepared sandwiches and juice. My father played football with my brother while I took photos of the trees and flowers. The weather was sunny and warm, so we had a wonderful time. We came back home in the evening. It was a great day!
