📝 Introduction
Talking about the past is one of the most essential skills in English. Whether you’re telling a story, describing a historical event, or explaining the sequence of actions, you need to master the past tenses. In the Baccalaureate exam, past tenses appear in reading comprehension, grammar exercises, and writing tasks. This lesson covers the three main past tenses: Simple Past, Past Continuous, and Past Perfect, with detailed rules, examples, and practice exercises.
I. Simple Past — Past Simple
1. Formation
| Type | Rule | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Regular verbs | Verb + -ed | work → worked, play → played |
| Irregular verbs | 2nd column of irregular verbs | go → went, eat → ate, write → wrote |
| Negative | Subject + did not (didn’t) + base verb | He did not (didn’t) come. |
| Question | Did + subject + base verb? | Did you see the film? |
2. Uses
