Narrative Tenses: Past Simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect

Past Simple

Completed actions in the past. Ex: He arrived at 8 PM.

Past Continuous

Actions in progress at a specific past time. Ex: At 8 PM, he was driving home.

Past Perfect

Actions completed before another past action. Ex: When she arrived, he had already left.

Using them together

While I was walking (past continuous), I saw (past simple) an accident. I had never seen (past perfect) such a thing before.
