Subject and Object Questions

Subject Questions

Ask about the subject of the sentence. No auxiliary verb. Who wrote this book? (who is the subject). What happened yesterday? (what is the subject).

Object Questions

Ask about the object of the sentence. Use auxiliary verb. Who did you meet? (who is the object). What did she buy? (what is the object).

Comparison

Subject Q: Who lives here? (no auxiliary). Object Q: Who does he know? (auxiliary does).
