Common prepositions of place

• In — inside: The book is in my bag.
• On — on top of: The pen is on the desk.
• Under — below: The cat is under the table.
• Behind — at the back: The garden is behind the house.
• In front of — facing: The school is in front of the park.
• Next to — beside: The library is next to the mosque.
• Between — in the middle: The bank is between the café and the post office.
• Near — close to: I live near the school.
• Above/Below — higher/lower: The plane is above the clouds.
