Articles: A, An, The

Articles are words that define nouns as specific or unspecific. There are three articles: a, an, and the.

Indefinite Articles: A and An

A before consonant sounds: a book, a car, a university. An before vowel sounds: an apple, an hour, an umbrella. Use for non-specific singular countable nouns: I saw a dog.

Definite Article: The

The for specific nouns: The book on the table. For unique things: the sun, the moon. With superlatives: the best. With musical instruments: play the piano.

Zero Article (no article)

Plural countable nouns: Dogs are loyal. Uncountable nouns: Water is essential. Proper nouns: John lives in London. Meals: Have breakfast.
