Expressing Wishes and Regrets

Wishes for the present:

I wish + past simple. Ex: “I wish I had more time.”
If only + past simple. Ex: “If only I knew the answer.”

Wishes for the past (regrets):

I wish + past perfect. Ex: “I wish I had studied harder.”
If only + past perfect. Ex: “If only I hadn’t said that.”

Wishes for the future:

I wish + would + V1. Ex: “I wish you would listen.”

Should have + V3 (regret about past):

“I should have studied more.” “I shouldn’t have eaten so much.”
