Writing an Informal Letter
An informal letter is a personal letter written to friends or family. It uses a friendly and relaxed tone.
Structure of an informal letter
- Address and date: Your address in the top right corner, date below.
- Greeting: Dear Ahmed, / Hi Samir, / My dear Fatima,
- Introduction: How are you? I hope you’re well. Thanks for your letter.
- Body: The main content. Use paragraphs for different topics.
- Closing: Well, I must go now. Write back soon.
- Signature: Best wishes, / Love, / Your friend, + your name
Useful expressions
- Opening: I’m writing to tell you about… / It was great to hear from you.
- Closing: I’m looking forward to hearing from you. / Give my regards to your family.
Example
Dear Ali,
I hope you are doing well. I’m writing to tell you about my summer vacation. I went to the beach with my family. We had a wonderful time…
