Drama: Elements of a Play
1. Plot
Sequence: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution.
2. Characters
Protagonist (hero), antagonist (villain), supporting characters.
3. Dialogue
Conversation between characters, reveals character and advances plot.
4. Setting
Time and place of action, creates atmosphere and mood.
5. Theme
Central idea: love, justice, betrayal, revenge, freedom.
6. Conflict
Internal (within character) or external (between characters/society/nature).
7. Types of Drama
Tragedy (sad ending, e.g. Hamlet), Comedy (happy ending, e.g. Tartuffe), Tragicomedy, Historical play.
