Have Got / Has Got
Introduction
We use have got and has got to talk about possession, appearance, family members, and personal characteristics.
Formation
Affirmative:
– I have got = I’ve got
– You have got = You’ve got
– He has got = He’s got
– She has got = She’s got
– It has got = It’s got
– We have got = We’ve got
– They have got = They’ve got
Examples:
– I have got a new bag.
– She has got blue eyes.
– They have got three children.
Negative:
– I haven’t got a car.
– He hasn’t got a sister.
– We haven’t got any pets.
Questions:
– Have you got a pen?
– Has she got a brother?
– Have they got a big house?
Short Answers
Yes, I have. / No, I haven’t.
Yes, she has. / No, she hasn’t.
Yes, they have. / No, they haven’t.
Difference: Have Got vs Have
“Have got” is more common in British English, while “have” is more common in American English. Both have the same meaning.
