Writing a Descriptive Paragraph
A descriptive paragraph describes a person, place, object or scene using sensory details. Structure: Topic sentence (introduces what you are describing). Body sentences (use adjectives and sensory details: sight, sound, smell, touch, taste). Concluding sentence (sums up the description). Example: The beach was beautiful. The golden sand stretched for miles. The waves crashed gently against the shore. Seagulls flew overhead. The salty smell of the sea filled the air. It was a perfect day. Useful adjectives: beautiful, stunning, magnificent, peaceful, calm, crowded, lively, ancient, modern, colourful, bright, dark, soft, hard. Useful phrases: There is/are… It looks like… It smells like… You can see/hear/feel… In the distance… In the foreground… Exercise: Describe your bedroom or your favourite place (150 words).
