Comparative and Superlative Adjectives
We use comparatives to compare two things and superlatives to compare three or more things.
Comparative Adjectives
Short adjectives (1-2 syllables): adjective + -er + than
- tall → taller than
- small → smaller than
- big → bigger than (double final consonant)
- happy → happier than (y→i)
Long adjectives (3+ syllables): more + adjective + than
- beautiful → more beautiful than
- important → more important than
Superlative Adjectives
Short adjectives: the + adjective + -est
- the tallest
- the smallest
- the biggest
Long adjectives: the most + adjective
- the most beautiful
- the most important
Irregular Forms
