Prepositions of Place

Prepositions of place tell us where something is located. They are essential for giving directions.

1. In

Used for enclosed spaces or larger areas: The book is in my bag. He lives in Algeria.

2. On

Used for surfaces: The cat is on the table. The picture is on the wall.

3. At

Used for specific points: I am at school. She is at the bus stop.

4. Under

Below or beneath: The dog is under the table. The shoes are under the bed.

5. Between

In the middle of two things: The school is between the bank and the hospital.

6. Next to / Beside

Close to: The library is next to the café.

7. Behind / In front of

The garden is behind the house. The car is in front of the building.
