English — Vocabulary: The Weather and Seasons — 2nd Year Middle School — Algerian Curriculum

Introduction

Talking about the weather is a common topic in everyday conversations. In this lesson, we will learn the vocabulary related to weather and seasons.

The Four Seasons

• Spring: warm, flowers bloom, birds sing.
• Summer: hot, sunny, beach, swimming.
• Autumn (Fall): cool, leaves fall, rainy.
• Winter: cold, snow, rain, wind.

Weather Vocabulary

• Sunny: when the sun shines brightly.
• Cloudy: when clouds cover the sky.
• Rainy: when it rains.
• Windy: when the wind blows.
• Snowy: when snow falls.
• Foggy: when there is fog.
• Stormy: when there is a storm.
• Hot / Cold / Warm / Cool: describing temperature.

Useful Expressions

• What’s the weather like today? — It is sunny and hot.
• What is the temperature? — It is 30 degrees.
• What is your favourite season? — My favourite season is spring because the weather is pleasant.

Exercises

1. Describe the weather in Algeria during each season.
2. Write a short dialogue between two friends talking about the weather.
3. Draw a weather chart for one week and write sentences about each day.
