In this lesson for 2nd Year Middle School students in Algeria, we study English — Grammar: Modal Verbs (can, must, should, have to) — 2nd Year Middle School — Algerian Curriculum according to the Algerian curriculum.
Note: Some modal verb lessons already exist. We create a review lesson. Can: ability/permission. Must: obligation. Should: advice. Have to: necessity. Structure: modal + base verb. Negative: can not (cannot), must not, should not, do not have to.
Examples
Example 1: You must wear a uniform at school. (obligation)
Example 2: She can speak three languages. (ability)
Example 3: You should study every day. (advice)
Exercises
Exercise 1: Complete: You ___ respect your teachers. (obligation)
Exercise 2: Choose: You (can/must) park here. It is allowed.
Exercise 3: Give advice using should and obligations using must.
