First Conditional

We use the first conditional to talk about possible future situations.

Form

If + present simple, will + base verb

“If it rains, I will stay home.”

“If you study, you will pass the exam.”

Other modals

can, may, might, should can be used instead of will:

“If you finish early, you can go out.”

“If she calls, I might answer.”

Unless

Unless = if not: “Unless you hurry, you’ll miss the bus.” (If you don’t hurry…)

Exercise
