Sports, Hobbies and Leisure Activities
Introduction
Talking about hobbies and sports helps you share your interests with others. Use “like”, “love”, “enjoy”, “don’t like”, “hate” with the -ing form to talk about activities. This lesson covers sports, hobbies, and leisure activities vocabulary that is useful for everyday conversation.
Sports
- Ball sports: football, basketball, volleyball, handball, tennis, table tennis, rugby
- Athletics: running, jumping, swimming, cycling, boxing, wrestling, karate, judo
- Other sports: gymnastics, skiing, horse riding, fishing, hiking, climbing
Hobbies and Leisure
- Creative: drawing, painting, photography, playing a musical instrument, singing, dancing
- Quiet: reading, writing, cooking, gardening, chess, puzzles, watching TV
- Social: chatting with friends, shopping, visiting family, playing video games
Expressions with Like/Dislike
- I like / love / enjoy + -ing. “I like playing football”
- I don’t like / hate / can’t stand + -ing. “I don’t like getting up early”
- I’m interested in / I’m good at + -ing. “I’m interested in learning English”
