Infinitive of Purpose (to + verb)
We use the infinitive of purpose to explain why we do something. It answers the question ‘Why?’.
1. Structure
Subject + verb + to + base verb.
I went to the store to buy milk. She studies to get good grades.
2. In order to / so as to
More formal: He exercises in order to stay healthy.
3. Negative purpose
I left early so as not to miss the bus.
