المدة: 3 ساعات — المعامل: 3 — الشعبة: لغات أجنبية

📌 Part One: Reading Comprehension (12 points)

Read the text carefully and answer the questions below:

Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world, as Nelson Mandela famously said. In the 21st century, education systems around the world face unprecedented challenges. Rapid technological advances, changing labor markets, and global crises like the COVID-19 pandemic have forced educators to rethink traditional approaches to teaching and learning.

One of the most significant developments has been the rise of digital learning. Online platforms, virtual classrooms, and educational apps have made learning accessible to millions of students who previously had limited access to quality education. However, the digital divide remains a major obstacle: students in wealthy countries and urban areas enjoy high-speed internet and modern devices, while their peers in rural and low-income regions struggle with limited connectivity and outdated equipment.

Another important trend is the shift from memorization to skills-based learning. Employers today value critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and adaptability more than the ability to recite facts. Many countries are reforming their curricula to emphasize project-based learning, problem-solving, and interdisciplinary approaches. Finland, for example, has introduced phenomenon-based learning where students study real-world topics from multiple perspectives.

Despite these reforms, education systems must also address the social and emotional needs of students. Mental health, well-being, and inclusive education have become central concerns. A holistic approach that nurtures not only academic skills but also emotional intelligence and social responsibility is essential for preparing students to become active and responsible citizens.

Model answer — Topic 1:
Introduction — The integration of technology in education has accelerated dramatically in recent years. While digital tools offer unprecedented opportunities for learning, the statement that technology cannot replace the teacher raises important questions about the nature of education itself.
Body (supporting) — Technology can personalize learning, provide access to vast resources, and enable distance education. Tools like AI tutors and virtual labs can supplement instruction and help students learn at their own pace. However, education is not merely information transfer. Teachers inspire, mentor, and create the human connection that motivates students. They adapt to individual needs in ways no algorithm can. A teacher can recognize when a student is struggling emotionally or needs encouragement — something technology cannot do.
Body (balancing) — The most effective approach combines technology with skilled teachers. Technology is a powerful tool, but the teacher remains the heart of the educational process. The future of education is not technology replacing teachers, but technology empowering them.
Conclusion — Technology transforms education but cannot replace the irreplaceable human elements of teaching: inspiration, empathy, and personal guidance.
