Telling Time and Daily Routines — English — 2nd Year Middle School — Algerian Curriculum

Knowing how to tell the time and describe your daily activities are essential skills in English. In this lesson, we will learn how to ask for and tell the time, and how to talk about what we do every day. This lesson is designed for second-year middle school students following the Algerian curriculum.

• وصف الروتين اليومي باستخدام Simple Present
• استخدام ظروف التكرار (Adverbs of Frequency) مع الروتين اليومي
• ربط الأحداث الزمنية (First, Then, After that, Finally)

الشرح المبسط

Asking for the time (السؤال عن الوقت):

• What time is it? (كم الساعة؟)
• What’s the time? (كم الوقت؟)
• Do you have the time? (هل تعرف الوقت؟)

Telling the time (إخبار الوقت):

لإخبار الوقت، نستخدم “It is” متبوعة بالوقت:

• الساعة بالضبط (o’clock): It’s three o’clock. (الساعة الثالثة)
• النصف (half past): It’s half past seven. (الساعة السابعة والنصف) — تعني 7:30
• الربع بعد (quarter past): It’s quarter past eight. (الثامنة والربع) — 8:15
• الربع إلا (quarter to): It’s quarter to nine. (التاسعة إلا ربع) — 8:45
• الدقائق (minutes past/to):
  It’s ten past nine. (التاسعة وعشر دقائق) — 9:10
  It’s twenty to eleven. (الحادية عشرة إلا عشرين) — 10:40

Daily Routines (الروتين اليومي):

للحديث عن عاداتنا اليومية، نستخدم Simple Present Tense:

• I wake up at 6 o’clock. (أستيقظ في السادسة)
• I have breakfast at 6:30. (أتناول الفطور في السادسة والنصف)
• I go to school at 7:15. (أذهب إلى المدرسة في السابعة والربع)
• I come back home at 4 o’clock. (أعود إلى المنزل في الرابعة)
• I do my homework at 5 o’clock. (أقوم بواجباتي في الخامسة)
• I have dinner at 7:30. (أتناول العشاء في السابعة والنصف)
• I go to bed at 9 o’clock. (أذهب إلى الفراش في التاسعة)

Adverbs of Frequency (ظروف التكرار):

نستخدمها لوصف عدد مرات حدوث الفعل:

• Always (دائماً) 100% — I always brush my teeth.
• Usually (عادةً) 80% — I usually have breakfast at home.
• Often (غالباً) 60% — I often play football after school.
• Sometimes (أحياناً) 40% — I sometimes watch TV in the evening.
• Never (أبداً) 0% — I never go to school late.

📌 قاعدة: توضع ظروف التكرار قبل الفعل الرئيسي ولكن بعد الفعل “To Be”.

Example 1: What time is it?

1. 3:00 → It’s three o’clock.
2. 7:30 → It’s half past seven.
3. 9:15 → It’s quarter past nine.
4. 5:45 → It’s quarter to six.
5. 10:20 → It’s twenty past ten.

Example 2: Put the words in the correct order.

1. always / I / at 6 o’clock / wake up → I always wake up at 6 o’clock.
2. never / late / I / am → I am never late.
3. plays / he / often / football → He often plays football.

Example 3: Write a short paragraph about your daily routine.

“I wake up at 6 o’clock every day. First, I wash my face and brush my teeth. Then, I have breakfast at 6:30. I go to school at 7:15. I usually have lunch at 12:30. After that, I come back home at 4 o’clock. I do my homework from 5 to 6. Finally, I have dinner at 7:30 and go to bed at 9 o’clock.”

4. اكتب فقرة قصيرة (4-5 جمل) عن روتينك اليومي باستخدام أولاً، ثم، بعد ذلك، أخيراً.

اسأل 3 من أفراد عائلتك عن وقت استيقاظهم ووقت نومهم. اكتب إجاباتهم باللغة الإنجليزية. مثلاً: “My mother wakes up at 5:30. She goes to bed at 10 o’clock.”
