Vocabulary: Describing Cities and Places
Lesson Objectives:
- Learn adjectives to describe cities.
- Use there is/there are for descriptions.
- Describe your city or a place you know.
Adjectives for Places:
- Size: big, small, huge, tiny, vast, narrow.
- Age: old, ancient, modern, new, historic.
- Appearance: beautiful, ugly, clean, dirty, crowded, quiet, noisy, peaceful.
- Atmosphere: lively, relaxing, exciting, boring, romantic.
Useful Structures:
- There is / There are: There is a big park in my city.
- It has / It has got: My city has a beautiful beach.
- The city is known for: Algiers is known for its Casbah.
Places in a City:
mosque, church, museum, park, market, supermarket, school, hospital, bank, post office, restaurant, cafe, cinema, theater, stadium, library, zoo, garden, bridge, square.
Exercises:
- Describe your city using 5 adjectives.
- Write a paragraph describing your neighborhood.
- Create a dialogue asking for and giving directions in a city.
