How to Write a Narrative Essay
1. Definition
A narrative essay tells a story from the writer’s point of view. It uses first person (I, me, my), sensory details, and chronological order.
2. Structure
Introduction:
Hook + background + thesis (lesson learned).
Body:
Events in order, sensory language (sight, sound, smell), dialogue, emotions. Transition words: first, then, next, suddenly, finally.
Conclusion:
Summarize experience, reflect on meaning.
3. Useful Language
Time: once upon a time, one day, suddenly, eventually. Verbs: saw, heard, felt, smelled. Emotions: excited, scared, happy, nervous.
