Introduction

In this lesson, we will learn how to talk about hobbies and interests in English. This is an important skill for making friends and having conversations. You will learn vocabulary for common hobbies and how to express your likes and dislikes.

Grammar: Expressing Likes and Dislikes

To express likes: I like / I love / I enjoy / I am interested in + verb-ing or noun

To express dislikes: I don’t like / I hate / I can’t stand + verb-ing or noun

Examples:

• I like playing football. / أحب لعب كرة القدم
• She enjoys reading books. / هي تستمتع بقراءة الكتب
• He doesn’t like swimming. / هو لا يحب السباحة
• They love watching films. / هم يحبون مشاهدة الأفلام

Exercises

Exercise 1: Complete the sentences with the correct form of the verb.

1. I enjoy ______ (play) football after school.
2. She loves ______ (read) books before bed.
3. They don’t like ______ (swim) in cold water.

Exercise 2: Write 5 sentences about your hobbies using I like, I love, I don’t like.
