Writing a Postcard

Learn how to write a postcard in English. A postcard is a short message sent to friends or family when you are on holiday.

1. Structure of a Postcard

1. Greeting: “Dear Mom and Dad,” or “Hi Samir,”
2. Opening: “Greetings from Algiers!” or “I am having a great time in…”
3. Body: Describe what you are doing, the weather, the food, the places.
4. Closing: “Wish you were here!” or “See you soon!”
5. Signature: “Love, Yasmine” or “Your friend, Ahmed”

2. Model Postcard

“Dear Grandparents,

Greetings from Oran! I am having a wonderful holiday here. The weather is sunny and warm. The beach is beautiful. Yesterday, I visited the Santa Cruz fortress and the view was amazing. The food is delicious, especially the seafood.

I miss you. See you next week!

Love, Yasmine”
