Grammar: For and Since with Present Perfect
Lesson Objectives:
- Learn the difference between for and since.
- Use them correctly with the present perfect.
- Talk about duration and starting points.
For vs Since:
- For + a period of time: for two hours, for three years, for a long time.
- Since + a specific point in time: since Monday, since 2020, since I was a child.
Examples:
- I have lived in Algiers for 10 years.
- I have lived in Algiers since 2016.
- She has studied English for 5 years.
- She has studied English since she was 8.
- They have been friends for a long time.
- They have been friends since primary school.
Exercises:
- Fill in: “I have had this phone ___ three years.” (for/since)
- Complete: “We have known each other ___ 2020.”
- Write 2 sentences about yourself using for and since.
