English – Grammar: Present Simple vs Present Continuous – 3rd Year Middle School – Algeria

Introduction

The present simple and present continuous are two present tenses with different uses.

Present Simple

• Habits: I play football every day.
• Facts: Water boils at 100C.
• Schedules: The train leaves at 6pm.

Present Continuous

• Actions now: I am reading now.
• Temporary situations: She is staying with us.
• Future plans: We are leaving tomorrow.
