Present Simple vs Present Continuous

Present Simple

Formation: S + V1 s/es for he/she/it. Uses: habits I play football every Friday facts The sun rises in the east. Signal words: always usually every day.

Present Continuous

Formation: S + am/is/are + V-ing. Uses: actions happening now I am reading a book now temporary situations She is studying for her exam future plans They are going to the cinema tonight. Signal words: now at the moment today.

Differences

Present Simple is for permanent actions while Present Continuous is for temporary actions. She works in a hospital permanent vs She is working from home this week temporary.

Exercises

Exercise 1: Choose the correct tense: 1- She study/studies every day. 2- They are playing/play football now. 3- Water boils/is boiling at 100 degrees Celsius.
