Reported Speech: Indirect Statements and Questions

Statements

Present > Past. “I like” > “He said he liked.”
Will > Would. “I will come” > “He said he would come.”
Can > Could. “I can swim” > “He said he could swim.”

Questions

Yes/No: Use “if/whether”. “Do you like?” > “He asked if I liked.”
Wh-: Keep question word. “Where do you live?” > “She asked where I lived.”

Time changes

today > that day, yesterday > the day before, tomorrow > the next day, now > then, here > there.
