Phrasal Verbs

Phrasal verbs are verbs combined with a preposition or adverb to create a new meaning.

Common Phrasal Verbs

• look for: search. I am looking for my keys.
• look after: take care of. She looks after her brother.
• give up: stop trying. Don t give up!
• turn on/off: start/stop. Turn on the light.
• put on / take off: clothes. Put on your jacket.
• get up: rise from bed. I get up at 7 am.
• go on: continue. Please go on with your story.
• come in: enter. Come in please.
• find out: discover. I found out the truth.
• carry out: perform. They carried out the experiment.

Separable vs Inseparable

• Separable: Turn off the light = Turn the light off.
• Inseparable: Look after the children (not look the children after).
