Countable and Uncountable Nouns

Nouns can be countable or uncountable. This affects the articles and quantifiers we use.

Countable Nouns

Things we can count. They have singular and plural forms.
a book – two books, an apple – three apples, a student – many students.

Uncountable Nouns

Things we cannot count. They have only one form.
water, milk, rice, bread, sugar, information, money, time, music, advice, news.

Quantifiers

• With countable: a/an, many, few, several, a few, a number of.
• With uncountable: much, little, a little, a bit of, a great deal of.
• With both: some, any, no, a lot of, lots of, plenty of.
