Articles: A, An, The, Zero Article

Articles are used before nouns to indicate whether the noun is specific or general.

Indefinite Articles: A / An

• A before consonant sounds: a book, a university, a European.
• An before vowel sounds: an apple, an hour, an honest man.
• Use: first mention, general reference, jobs, with numbers.

Definite Article: The

• Specific nouns: The book on the table is mine.
• Unique things: the sun, the moon, the world.
• Superlatives: the best, the most beautiful.
• Ordinal numbers: the first, the second.

Zero Article (No Article)

• Plural and uncountable nouns in general: Books are important. Water is essential.
• Proper nouns: Algeria, Paris, Ahmed.
• Meals: I have breakfast at 7 am.
• Sports: I play football.
