Grammar: The Past Continuous Tense

Describes an action in progress at a specific past time. Structure: was/were + verb-ing.

Affirmative: I was playing. Negative: I wasn’t playing. Question: Was I playing?

Uses:

1. Action in progress at past time: At 8pm I was watching TV.
2. Two actions at the same time: She was reading while he was cooking.
3. Interrupted action: I was sleeping when the phone rang.

Exercise: Complete: They (play) at 5pm. I (not/listen). What (she/do) when you arrived?
