Past Continuous Tense

The past continuous describes an action that was in progress at a specific time in the past.

Form

Subject + was/were + verb-ing

I/He/She/It was working. / You/We/They were working.

Uses

• Action in progress at a specific time: “At 8pm, I was watching TV.”
• Two actions happening at the same time: “While I was cooking, she was reading.”
• Interrupted action: “I was sleeping when the phone rang.”
